Chaos and Children’s Books

Hey there! Thanks for stopping by! I was just about to read and have some tea. Tonight’s choices: butterfly pea flower tea and Woo Hoo! You’re Doing Great! by Sandra Boynton. Does the book surprise you? It’s a children’s book. I love children’s books because they are comforting when I’m trying to find peace from the chaos of a hectic day. Yet the books do not make the chaos go away. When you think about it, children’s books are chaos themselves. On the rhyming, brightly colored pages, flowers dance, crayons take on a life of their own, kids travel to space in their PJs, and not only do animals talk, they sometimes have pets! Children’s books teach children (and sometimes adults) how to navigate the chaos with curiosity, laughter, and a positive outlook.

Tonight’s book reminds us that even when we feel overwhelmed, we should find comfort in the fact that we are doing our best. The book features an overenthusiastic chicken, and whether it is the roller-skating pig or the tap-dancing rhino, he is there to (loudly) cheer on everyone as they perform their tasks. “WOO HOO! YOU’RE DOING GREAT!” However, when the chicken makes a mistake, he starts to let doubt creep in until a friend reminds him that he did his best. I needed this reminder today. I try to help and support everyone. Sometimes the sheer volume of my responsibilities is overwhelming, which causes me to magnify each mistake I make. Sometimes I just need a gentle reminder that I am doing my best and I don’t have to be perfect.

Even with a million things upon my plate, Woo Hoo! I’m doing GREAT!

Did you know? Butterfly Pea Flower tea has several health benefits:
